Roof Cleaning FAQs: Everything You Need to Know Before Booking Your Clean

When it comes to roof cleaning, we know there are a lot of questions. We get it—your roof is a big investment, and you want to make sure it’s being cleaned safely and effectively. That’s why we’ve put together this FAQ guide, answering the most common concerns we hear from our clients.

1) Can you use a jet wash to clean your roof?

🚫 Short answer: No. Traditional jet washing is not recommended for cleaning roofs. The high-pressure water can damage the tiles, force water under them, and even remove the protective granules that keep your roof in good shape.

💡 What we do instead: We use a roof wand system that hovers above the roof, cleaning safely from above. This ensures full protection of your tiles while delivering incredible results instantly.

2) Is roof cleaning safe? Will it affect the integrity of my roof?

✅ Yes, our method is completely safe. We use professional techniques that remove moss, algae, and dirt without compromising the structure of your roof.

Our roof wand provides a gentle yet effective clean, and for non-pressure cleaning, we use a scrape-and-biocide treatment that allows the cleaning solution to work over time without any force or pressure.

3) Does scraping damage the tiles or remove their protective coating?

❌ No, it doesn’t. If moss is growing on your roof, that means the protective coating is already gone. Moss thrives in moisture-retaining environments, and a properly coated tile wouldn’t hold moisture long enough for moss to grow.

Our scraping method only removes the moss, not the tile itself. Once the moss is gone, we apply a biocide treatment to stop regrowth and allow the roof to self-clean over time.

4) Will roof cleaning break or crack my tiles?

🛑 Not from our cleaning process, but pre-existing damage can be uncovered.

Both of our cleaning methods—roof wand cleaning and scrape & biocide—are non-abrasive and gentle. However, if moss has already weakened or cracked a tile, our cleaning process might reveal the damage that was already there.

Before we start any roof clean, we carry out a full roof survey to check for any existing issues. If there’s a risk of damage, we will discuss it with you before proceeding.

5) Will my roof look brand new after cleaning?

🔹 Roof Wand Cleaning: This gives instant results by removing all dirt, moss, and stains in one go. Once we apply a biocide treatment, your roof is left clean, bright, and protected from future moss growth.

🔹 Scrape & Biocide Treatment: This method takes a bit more time but is just as effective. You’ll notice a huge improvement immediately, but the real transformation happens over the following months as the biocide continues working to restore the tiles.
